Thrifting is a great way to build your wardrobe while staying fiscally responsible and environmentally conscious. As thrifting becomes more popular, demand grows and the number of businesses expands. So, where are the best thrift spots in the Decatur area? Below is a list of my three favorite places to shop second-hand.
Â
*Please note: Thrifting is sometimes the only option people have for clothing. Being considerate of others while shopping is essential; visit this link to read more about thrifting with a conscience.

3)Â The Salvation Army
Â
Found at 2901 N. Water St., this staple has everything you need, especially for clothing. However, you can’t pass up the low prices of home goods, décor, furniture, and appliances. This facility is the largest organization on the list, which has its downsides, but overall, it is a great place to shop.
Â
The store is well organized, making it easy to find exactly what you need. Additionally, they have a simple price range system with very low prices. With sales all the time, most merchandise in the store is marked down even further.
Â
The Salvation Army was founded over 100 years ago and has operated rehabilitation facilities across the U.S. They provide help and hope to individuals, catering to a variety of problems related to substance abuse. Your shopping helps provide participants with what they need to start living healthy, fulfilling lives.
Â
2) Blessingdales
Â
This charitable shop is located at 345 W. Eldorado St. in Decatur. Here you can find an incredible selection of items, including clothing for men, women, and children, as well as furniture, small appliances, home décor, games, and books. A personal favorite of mine is the selection of vintage jewelry.
Â
The employees are kindhearted and very welcoming; eager to help and make conversation, they aim to create an inviting shopping experience. With inventory that changes often and matches the seasons, there is no doubt they create a wonderful environment.
Â
Not only are there constant sales that lower already low prices, but all proceeds benefit homeless women and children staying at God’s Shelter of Love. Directly helping Macon County, the resale shop uses the generosity of donors and supporters and multiplies it.
Â
1) New Life Thrift Shoppe
Â
Located at 1700 E. Pershing Rd, in Decatur, this shoppe is a favorite of community members. The staff is incredibly welcoming and super friendly. The shop has a great range of items, including name brands at competitive prices. Shoppers can purchase a variety of items from clothing to home goods. Here you can find your crafting supplies or household essentials for affordable prices.
Â
Not only this, but the mission of New Life Thrift Shoppe is incredibly admirable. The proceeds from purchases help support the New Life Pregnancy Center. Contribute to a worthy cause while enjoying your shopping experience.
Â
Along with low prices, the shop has regular sales and discounts, further lowering prices. With a clean and organized facility, there is not much more you can ask for while thrifting.
Â
Don’t forget that all of these shops rely on donations. With what you take, try to give in return. Regardless, your support keeps organizations like these alive and allows them to carry out worthy missions.
